    ______________________

The Cirrus Logic 54X6 device driver provides seamless support
for accelerated video graphics and advanced color resolutions
when used with the minimum required video memory. It conforms
to the OS/2 32-bit flat memory model and is designed to function
as a 32-bit Presentation Manager graphics display driver under
     the OS/2 32-bit graphics engine.

     1.1 Supported Resolutions

     1.2 Supported Adapters

For a comprehensive listing of all major manufacturing products
that are OS/2-compatible, refer to the "OS/2 Hardware
Compatibility List" book. Other IBM systems and video adapters
that contain the Cirrus Logic 5436/46 chip set might be added to
     these lists over time.

Note: The compatibility hardware test information supplied is
provided for information purposes. IBM makes no warranty,
express or implied, with respect to the operation of OS/2
          on the personal computers listed.

    1.3 Text Mode Support

The number of characters per line (columns) and number of lines
(rows) for an OS/2 full screen can be specified with the OS/2
MODE command. Supported options for this driver are:

            Columns Rows
             40 25
             80 40

Note: 132-column support is not available.

    1.4 DDC Monitor Support

When the VESA Display Data Channel (DDC) protocols are supported
in the video BIOS, the operating system, and the monitor, the
monitor capabilities can be automatically reported to the
system. If a DDC monitor is detected, the system will
automatically start up configured with the best refresh rate
possible for that monitor. This information is dependent on what
data is provided in the chip and the BIOS as to the availability
of specific refresh rates. The BIOS provides information on
refresh rate per resolution, not per mode.

1.5 Selecting Large or Small Fonts for Windows

You can select the font size for a WIN/OS2 session in both OS/2
    2.1x and OS/2 Warp 3.0.

1.6 New Functions Provided with This Driver

Change Refresh Rate on the Fly is available for OS/2 Warp 3.0
only. With this new utility program, located in the Systems
Settings folder, you can change the vertical refresh rate "on
the fly," that is, without resetting the operating system or
    restarting the computer.

Use the following procedure to change the refresh rate for your
    monitor without restarting the computer.

    1. Double-click on the OS/2 System icon.
    2. Double-click on the System Setup icon.
    3. Double-click on the System icon.
    4. Check to see if the monitor attached to your computer is
        selected in the Monitor Box.
    5. Click on the Down button of the Refresh box, and select a
refresh rate (this refresh rate must be supported by your
        monitor).
    6. Click on the Test button. The screen will blank momentarily
and return with a message box.
    7. Click on the YES button in the message box if your screen
appears OK. If your display is not readable, press the Esc
key to return to the original refresh-rate setting.

   2.0 Compatibility
   ________________

This graphics accelerator driver is compatible with OS/2 Warp and
    OS/2 2.1x.

   3.0 Preliminary Steps
   _____________________

The following steps prepare your computer for the installation
of a new OS/2 graphics device driver:

    1. You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order to install
        this driver.
    2. If you previously installed SVGA, or any Cirrus Logic device
driver, you must return to VGA mode before installing any
subsequent device driver. Use the procedures in the
        following section.

4.0 Setting Your Monitor to VGA Mode
   ____________________________________

   4.1 OS/2 Warp

If you are installing this device driver on OS/2 Warp, use the
following procedure to return to VGA mode.

    1. Turn on your computer. If your computer is already on, press
        Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it.
    2. When a small white box appears in the upper-left corner of
your screen, press Alt+F1. If you see the OS/2 Logo
displayed, you must start again at step 1.
    3. When the Recovery Choices screen appears, press V. OS/2 will
        automatically change back to VGA.

Your video adapter is now restored and can work in VGA mode. If
you want to install a new video adapter or video device driver,
refer to Chapter 16, "Video Procedures," in the User's Guide to
    OS/2 Warp.

   4.2 OS/2 2.1x

If you are installing this driver on OS/2 2.1, 2.11, or OS/2 for
Windows use the following procedures to return to VGA mode.

If you installed OS/2 from diskettes, do the following:

    1. Start OS/2 using the OS/2 Installation Diskette.

    2. When you are prompted, insert Diskette 1 and press Enter.

    3. Wait for the "Welcome to OS/2" message; then press Esc.

    4. Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the \OS2\INSTALL directory. If it
is, go to step 5. If it is not, insert Diskette 8 into drive
A and unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with the following command:

          C:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID C: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE

(where A: is the drive containing Diskette 8, and C: is the
        drive where OS/2 is installed.)

    5. Type C: and then press Enter.

    6. Type CD C:\OS2\INSTALL and then press Enter.

    7. Type the following:

          RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:C:

(where A: is the diskette drive you used to install OS/2 and
C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed.)

    8. Press Enter.

If you installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN, do the following:

If it is not, unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with the
        following command:

          C:\OS2\UNPACK E:\DISK_8\INSTAID C: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE

(where C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed, and E: is the
        CD-ROM or LAN drive.)

     6. Type C: and then press Enter.

     7. Type CD C:\OS2\INSTALL and then press Enter.

     8. Type the following:

            RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2SE21\ /T:C:

Note: If video memory size is changed, you must reinstall the
Cirrus Logic device drivers (by reinstalling the VGA
drivers first, then the Cirrus Logic drivers). Refer to
           Section 3.0 above.

   6.0 Running in Unattended Mode
   ______________________________

To run your computer in unattended mode, at the command prompt,
   type:

       A:] INSTALL /R:<path>INSTALL.RSP

where <path> is the diskette or hard disk drive containing the
   installation media.

The INSTALL.RSP file contains a list of default responses to
installation options. These options include the location of the
drive containing the media and use of an optional log file (for
   logging the unattended installation).

   7.0 Limitations
   _______________

o OS/2 2.1x does not have "Change Refresh Rate on the Fly"
       functionality.
