   3.0 Preliminary Steps
   _____________________

The following steps prepare your computer for the installation
of a new OS/2 graphics device driver:

    1. You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order to install
        this driver.
    2. If you previously installed SVGA, or any Cirrus Logic device
driver, you must return to VGA mode before installing any
subsequent device driver. Use the procedures in the
following section to return to VGA mode.

3.1 Setting Your Monitor to VGA Mode (OS2 WARP)

If you are installing this device driver on OS/2 Warp, use the
following procedure to return to VGA mode.

    1. Turn on your computer. If your computer is already on,
shutdown your computer, and then press Ctrl+Alt+Del to
        restart it.
    2. When a small white box appears in the upper-left corner of
your screen, press Alt+F1. If you see the OS/2 Logo
displayed, you must start again at step 1.
    3. When the Recovery Choices screen appears, select VGA mode
          for OS/2 V3 press V
          for OS/2 V4 press F3
OS/2 will automatically change back to VGA.

     6. Select Install from the Cirrus Logic Installation Program.
     7. Click on OK to let the installation program identify your
         graphics hardware and memory configuration.
     8. Select Yes to change your display driver settings.
     9. Select a screen resolution and close the System Settings
         dialog box.
    10. Close Drive A - Icon View, Drives - Icon View, and System
         Setup Icon View.
    11. Remove the diskette from Drive A:
    12. Shut down and restart the computer.

    4.1 DDC Monitor Support

When the VESA Display Data Channel (DDC) protocols are supported
in the video BIOS, the operating system, and the monitor, the
monitor capabilities can be automatically reported to the
system. When DDC monitor is selected, the system will read the
video capabilities from the monitor and only allow those modes
which are supported by the monitor and the video subsystem. The
video information includes resolution, color depth, and refresh
    rate.
To select DDC monitor in OS2 V4:
     a) Click on OS2 System icon
     b) Click on System Setup icon
     c) Click on System icon
     d) Select the Screen tab
     e) Adjust the Monitor window to the desired selection
     f) Some monitor changes will change the video settings.
If this happens, one must press Test button and continue
through several panels. Reboot for changes to take effect.

If the video settings do not change, close the System Properties
window, and reboot the system for changes to take effect.

    4.2 MONITOR.DIF file

The OS2 directory (C:\OS2\) in your PC contains a file (MONITOR.DIF)
which lists many monitors, and their video capabilities. This file
may be edited to include other monitors which the user may have. At
the end of this file (README.TXT) you will find updated information
which may be used to correct MONITOR.DIF for some IBM monitors, and
    for the P201 in particular.
For OS2 V4, it is best to select DDC as the monitor selection. For
earlier versions of OS2, one must select a monitor which most closely
matches the video capabilities of the monitor being used, or edit
MONITOR.DIF file to include video characteristics of the monitor
being used. Please see your OS2 documentation for details.

   5.0 Running in Unattended Mode
   ______________________________

To run your computer in unattended mode, at the command prompt,
   type:

       A:\INSTALL /R:<path>INSTALL.RSP

where <path> is the diskette or hard disk drive containing the
   installation media.

The INSTALL.RSP file contains a list of default responses to
installation options. These options include the location of the
drive containing the media and use of an optional log file (for
   logging the unattended installation).
