Scramble from Handorf

WEATHER: Niteowl
INSERTS: None

       do not use map!)

Despite its successes, the He219 was
destined to lose the support needed
to continue production by the overall
strategic situation Germany found it-
self in. By November, 1944, the He219
program had been canceled as all re-
sources were to be allocated for pro-
duction of the so-called "Emergency
Fighter." Heinkel covertly continued
production, however, delivering a fur-
ther 54 aircraft. Nevertheless, the end
for the He219 (and Germany) was in sight.
Operations were increasingly disrupted by
lack of petrol, attacks on I/NJG1 air-
fields, and the necessity to continually
relocate bases due to the Allied ground
advances. Handorf (I/NJG1s main base) was
attacked repeatedly during early 1945,
destroying many He219s on the ground.
After this, the unit was transferred to
Westerland, where it was promptly dis-
banded so that its personnel could be
used as infantrymen.
ORDERS: Another attack on Hamburg/Handorf
has been detected. As many He219s as
could be hurriedly prepped and fueled are
attempting to take off before they are
destroyed on the ground. Take off, prevent
destruction of your valuable aircraft,
and attempt to make your way to Westerland.
