Gunnery Practice

The Ju88G-7 was a further
development of the Ju88 medium
bomber for use as a night figh-
ter. Its greatest advantage over
its predecessors, the Ju88C-
series, was in speed. With MW 50
boost, the Ju88G-7 could reach
389mph at altitude. The G-7 had
Lichtenstein SN-2 radar, which
was impervious to jamming from
its debut in the winter until
the summer of 1944. Armament
was considered very good, with
4x20mm cannon firing forward, 2
other 20mm cannon in a Jazz Mu-
sik arrangement, and a rear
machinegun for defense.
From 1944 on, the Ju88 was the
mainstay of the German night
fighter forces. It did well when
just fighting bombers, but the
arrival of Mosquitos escorting
the bombers was a death knell for
this aircraft.
