DEFENSE OF BIR HACHEIM

During the struggle for the surrounded
fortress of Bir Hacheim in June 1942, the
Luftwaffe finally decided to send in a
crushing blow. Waves of Ju87s and Ju88s
attacked (200 bombers total), supported
by 168 Bf109s, including most of JG 27.
For the first time, the Luftwaffe
encountered Spitfires in North Africa,
but it was to no avail. Hans Joachim
Marseille personally shot down four, and
the bombers went in. The next morning,
11 June, the fortress surrendered.

MISSION

You are flying in one of the first
Spitfires to be used in the North Africa
desert. Your debut mission is to fight
off the hordes of bombers coming to
attack Bir Hacheim. Due to the sheer
size of the attack, you may find it
necessary to conserve ammunition. This
is a very difficult mission.

NOTES

This is a day mission.
