INSTALLATION STEPS FOR OS/2*

Follow instructions in the OS/2 Installation manual to install OS/2 onto
     the hard disk drive.

OS/2 requires that the partition you are installing must
be less than 2 GB for a HPFS partition and less than 1 GB
for FAT. The FDISK program will not show the size of
the drive properly if they are greater than 2GB unless
the device driver IBMRAID.ADD is loaded.

OS/2 2.11 and OS/2 SMP 2.11
---------------------------

   ***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE *****
   *                                                                     *
   * Due to changes to the Kernel/Loader for 2.11 and 2.11 SMP it is *
   * necessary to use a temporary driver for the RAID card to get OS/2 *
   * installed. After OS/2 is installed and the proper CSD/fixpack is *
   * installed, the temporary driver (tmp960.add) must be replaced by *
   * the regular driver (IBMRAID.add). If you already have a version *
   * of OS/2 that contains the fixes in R206 (SMP) or XR_A091 YOU CAN *
   * NOT INSTALL WITH THE TMP960.ADD DRIVER. You will get a TRAP 000D. *
   * Please use the second option in the sub-menu under the menu item *
   * -Make modifications to backup OS/2 diskette for install- . *
   ***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE *****

 1. Boot the IBM RAID Option Diskette and select "Start Option Diskette"
from the Startup menu. In the next menu select "Make modifications to
backup of OS/2 2.11 (or 2.11 SMP) diskette". This will show a final
menu where you select either " Modify Backup diskette for Prior OS/2
2.11 or 2.11 SMP" or " Modify Backup for XR A091, R206SMP or
     Newer 2.11 version".

 2. If you want CD-ROM support after installation, check the CD support
checkbox and select your CD-ROM drive in the "Selective Installation"
screen that is displayed during installation,

 3. Near the end of the install process after the system files have been
copied there is an "Advanced Configuration Options" screen. Check
"INSTALL DEVICE SUPPORT DISKETTE" on this screen. Insert the RAID
Option diskette in the A: drive. Use the "Change" button to set the
"Source Directory" to A:\OS2. Select the temporary device driver if
you do not have the updates mentioned in the Note Box above or
if you have the updates choose the regular driver (IBMRAID).
Click the "Install" button. Continue the installation.

 4. Once OS/2 has been installed completely and the system has been
rebooted, install the proper CSD or fix pack (if required).
For 2.11 (non-SMP) the correct level should be at least XR_A091.
For 2.11 SMP it should be R206SMP or newer. Consult the OS/2 BBS
at 919-517-0001 for the latest information.

 5. If you have used the temporary driver to install the new CSD or
fixpack, and this update is complete, use the OS/2 system editor
to edit the Config.sys file and change the statement

     BASEDEV=TMP960.ADD

     to

     BASEDEV=IBMRAID.ADD.

 6. Save Config.sys, shutdown and reboot.

 7. After restarting the system, RAID administration can be started by
     entering
             RAIDADM [/lf=d:\path\logfile]
     at an OS2 command prompt.
Where logfile is the file name where RAIDADM messages will be
logged. If /lf is omitted, a default logfile IBMRAID.LOG is created in the
OS2 subdirectory. When the/lf switch is used make sure that the drive d:
and the path \path exists. RAIDADM will not create a subdirectory if one
     does not exist.

You can define RAIDADM to OS/2 by dragging a Program icon from the Templates
folder to the Desktop. In the Program - Settings notebook, on the Program
    page, enter the following:

o Path and file name: c:\os2\raidadm.exe
           o Parameters: /lf=d:\path\logfile

In the General page, enter RAID as the title and remove the tick mark from
    Template.

 OS/2 3.0 Warp
 -------------

 1. Boot the IBM RAID Option Diskette and select "Start Option Diskette"
from the Startup menu. In the next menu select "Make modifications to
backup of OS/2 Warp diskette for install" and follow the on-screen
     directions.

 2. If installing from diskettes, after the installation is complete,
and you are prompted to remove any diskette and press OK to reboot,
do so, but reinsert the Warp Installation diskette and boot from it.
When prompted for Warp Diskette 1, insert the modified backup copy
made in step 1. When the "Advanced/Easy Installation" screen is
displayed, press F3 for a command prompt. Type

    TEDIT <boot drive>:\config.sys

(where <boot drive> refers to the fixed disk drive letter where
    WARP is installed)

    Add the line

    BASEDEV=IBMRAID.ADD

to the end of the file. Save the file and reboot the system. This step
is not necessary for CD-ROM installation.

 3. After Warp has started succesfully from your hard disk, start an OS/2
full screen or windowed session. Insert the RAID Option Diskette in
    drive A: and type

            UPDATE3 d

where d is your drive where Warp is installed.

 4. RAID administration can be started by entering

In the General page, enter RAID as the title and remove the tick mark from
    Template.

    CD-ROM Installation Note:
The CD-ROM can be connected to any channel and can have SCSI-IDs 0 to 6
as long as it does not conflict with any other SCSI device ID or bay
(equivalent to SCSI-ID) that is currently connected to the PCI-Bus RAID
    Adapter.

INSTALLATION STEPS FOR Windows NT 3.5**

 1. Prepare the hard disk drives of your server according to instructions in
    Windows NT 3.5 manual.

NOTE: If the IBM PCI-Bus RAID Adapter is inserted in a system that
already has NT installed, copy the NT driver for the PCI-Bus RAID
          Adapter

              IBM960NT.SYS

from the A:\NT35 directory of the option diskette to the
\winnt\system32\drivers directory of NT. Go to step 9.

 2. Boot with the Windows NT Setup diskette.
 3. Select "Custom Setup" in the "Windows NT Setup" screen.
 4. Select Skip (S) to skip the scan for SCSI controllers installed
    in the system.
 5. Select Other from the list
 6. When prompted to insert "Manufacturer-supplied support disk"
insert the IBM PCI-Bus RAID Adapter option diskette into drive A:
 7. Select "IBM PCI-Bus RAID Controller ..." and press Enter.
 8. Continue with normal installation process according to instructions
in the Windows NT 3.5 manual.

NOTE - When installing onto a logical drive whose write policy
is set to write-back (WB), wait for 10 seconds after being
prompted to press Ctrl+Alt+Del before actually pressing these
keys. This gives the RAID Controller enough time to flush out
all dirty cache pages to hard disk.

 9. After successful installation copy RAIDADMN.EXE to the \winnt\system32
    directory.
10. The RAID administration can be started by entering

              RAIDADMN [/lf=d:\path\logfile]

     at any command prompt.
Where logfile is the file name where the RAIDADMN message will be logged
If /lf is omitted, a default logfile IBMRAID.LOG is created in the
\winnt subdirectory if one exists. When /lf switch is used make sure that
the drive d: and path \path exists. RAIDADMN will not create a
subdirectory if one does not exist.

You can define a RAID icon by selecting the file option in the Program
Manager option. Select New... from the menu and select Program Item
from New Program Object Menu. In the Program Item Properties menu
     enter the following:

         o Description: RAID
         o Command Line: c:\winnt\system32\raidadmn.exe [/lf=d:\path\logfile]
         o Working Directory: c:\winnt\system32

NOTE: If you are installing from a CD-ROM connected RAID Adapter, CD-ROM
can be connected to any channel and can have SCSI-IDs 0 to 6 as
long as it does not conflict with any other SCSI device IDs or
bays (equivalent SCSI-ID) that are currently connected to the PCI-Bus
          RAID Adapter.
