This modem uses an AT&T HSM288XCF chipset.

Section C - Troubleshooting
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. What is the best com port for this modem?

The driver installation program will examine your system and determine
what the best settings are to configure the modem. The driver installation
program should be run before the modem is installed in the computer.

2. Why does the On-line Express use a driver?

Windows normally communicates to serial devices, using COMM.DRV,
through the UART chip on the device. The On-line Express modem does
not use a standard UART chip for serial communications. Instead it uses a
driver which intercepts COMM.DRV and sends the data through the driver
instead. This procedure is a much more cost effective way of
communicating since UART technology is very expensive.

3. How do I configure third party communications software to operate with the
On-line Express?

Most communications software will have an option for a Hayes Compatible
modem. This is the best setting for the On-line Express. DO NOT select a
Boca V.34 modem or other Boca modem, because the V.34 On-line
Express uses a different set of commands than other Boca Research
	Fax/modems.

4. My modem works in Windows 3.x but not in DOS.

The DOS driver is disabled by default. Go to the Modem Configuration
Utility and make sure DOS support is enabled. This will add the driver line
	C:\MODEM\OLEDOS to your AUTOEXEC.BAT.

The DOS driver requires EMM386 with the RAM option enabled. The
Configuration Utility ensures that this option is enabled when the DOS
driver is activated. If you are having problems using this modem in DOS,
you should verify that this line is correct in your CONFIG.SYS file. If
EMM386 is loaded and there are other options enabled (such as NOEMS),
try using EMM386 with the RAM switch only.

5. How should I configure my DOS applications for the V.34 On-LineEXPRESS?

For most DOS applications, you should configure the software for the same
IRQ and COM port that is jumpered on the modem.

However, some application software requires standard com port and
IRQ settings and you must set the IRQ in the software to one of the
following choices based on your COM PORT:

	COM1 , choose IRQ 4
	COM2 , choose IRQ 3
	COM3 , choose IRQ 4
	COM4 , choose IRQ 3

For example, say you set your modem to COM 3, IRQ 5 with the OLEDOS
setup utility. Set the jumpers accordingly, to COM3, IRQ 5. However,
set your DOS application to IRQ 4.

Note: This does not apply when running an MS-DOS window
	from within Windows.

6. What is the recommended initialization string for the On-line Express?

	AT&F&C1&D2

You may need to add ^M to the end of this initialization string if
your software requires it for a carriage return.

7. I need an initialization string that will disable error correction and data
compression.

Some services may require the modem to be configured for no error
correction or data compression. The following initialization string will
	disable these options:

	AT&F&C1&D2\N0%C0

	\N0 -disables error correction
	%C0 -disables data compression

8. I can't install the drivers in PC DOS 7.0. I get an error that I am running
Windows 95 or a Windows version greater than 6.22. Why?

You can use the SETVER program to work around this problem.
First make sure you have the following device line in CONFIG.SYS:

	DEVICE=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE

Then from the command line in the modem directory (c:\modem) type:

	SETVER OLESET.EXE 6.22

You will get a warning message, then a short message stating that the
SETVER table has been updated. Now you must reboot the computer.
	OLESET should run now.

9. I want to remove the OLEDOS driver from my AUTOEXEC.BAT
program and only load it when I need it. Can OLEDOS be run from a command
line?

Yes. You can manually load OLEDOS from the MODEM directory. There
are three parameters associated with OLEDOS. Here is an example of how
the line should read and what the parameters are.

	C:\MODEM\OLEDOS P2 R400 I3

P2 - refers to the COM port that the modem is set to.
R400 - is the buffer size, (leave it at 400)
I3 - refers to the IRQ that the modem is set to.

Note: If you just type OLEDOS without any parameters, the driver will
default to COM2, IRQ3 with a buffer size of 400.

10. Where can I download the drivers for the V.34 On-LineEXPRESS?

The latest drivers are available several ways:
	1. Boca BBS: File area 14 on our BBS at (407)241-1601.
	2. Compuserve: Library 2 of the Modem Vendor Forum (GO BOCA).
	3. Boca Research Web Page: http://www.boca.org
	4. Boca Research FTP Site: ftp://ftp.boca.org

Section D - Windows 95
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. How do I install the V.34 On-LineEXPRESS in Windows 95?

You should follow the Windows 95 installation instructions in the product
guide, but here are the general steps for installing this modem in Windows
	95.

	1. Go to Add New Hardware in Windows Control Panel and add a port
using the driver diskette that was supplied with the modem.

	2. Make sure the jumpers on the modem are set to the COM PORT and
IRQ that Win95 reported for the new COM PORT you installed in step 1.

	3. Install the modem in the computer.

	4. Go to Add New Hardware in Windows Control Panel and add the
modem as new hardware. When Win95 prompts you to select the port to
attach it to, choose the MV34AI/FDSP34AI com port that was created in
	step 1.

2. I get an error "Can not open port" when I try to access the modem.

Edit your SYSTEM.INI file and make sure that the comm driver line reads
	as follows: comm.drv=comm.drv

3. Can I use my DOS communications applications in Windows 95 with this
modem?

Yes. If you want to use this modem in a DOS application, just start
Windows 95 and run the application in a DOS window. The modem
will not operate in a DOS only session because there will be no drivers
loaded for the modem. You must run the DOS application from within
Windows 95, so the driver is loaded for the modem.

The manual receive option is in the Fax Viewer screen. From
the viewer screen pull down the FAX menu and go to Manual
	Receive.

6. Should I set Faxworks as my default printer?

No. If you print more than you fax.
Yes. If you fax more than you print.

7. Why does Faxworks' Modem Diagnostics detect this modem as a 14.4Kbps
modem?

Faxworks is only detecting the maximum fax speed of the modem, not the
data speed. The maximum fax speed of the V.34 On-LineEXPRESS is
	14.4Kbps.
