The first multi-tasking multi-user computer to be widely used
by business was the UNIX operating system.

It was born out of Bell Laboratories by a small group of
talented engineers who knew how to make nuts and bolts out of
computer software and hardware. Unix partly means UNIVERSAL
since it runs on many different hardware platforms.

Eventually UNIX migrated to the personal computer market in a
form that rivals even the most sophisticated and expensive
early forms of UNIX. This new UNIX clone is called LINUX and
is practically free to personal computer users.

Most UNIX systems can host X-Windows graphics utilities to allow
Users to use windowing capabilities.

Only the obese, expensive and performance hungry Microsoft
"Windows" New Technology (NT) glutton operating system boasts to
be better than LINUX for multi-tasking and multi-user operations
in a personal computer environment.
