DMP-135 (260-2866) RAM Upgrade Faxback Doc. # 4328

To increase the Input Buffer from 8K to 32K, order 26-2851.

The DMP-135 can download 64 draft-quality characters with the standard 8K
byte RAM. However, if you want to download NLQ characters and/or more than
64 characters in either draft or NLQ font, you will need the optional 32K
byte RAM available by special order from your local Radio Shack Computer
Center or store.

We strongly recommend you to have the RAM replaced by the service technic-
ian at your Radio Shack Service Center. Doing so not only ensures expert
installation, but also enables the technicians to quickly check to be sure
all the functions are operating properly.

If, however, you do decide to replace the RAM yourself, follow the steps
detailed here exactly.

CAUTION: If you have been printing, allow the print head to cool down
before touching it.

To replace the RAM:

1. Open the printer cover and remove the ribbon cassette.

2. Manually move the print head to the right.

3. Grasp the fin of the compartment cover on the mechanical frame and
slide it to the left to remove it.

4. Insert a flat-blade screwdriver into the gap between the RAM IC and the
IC socket. Gradually pry one side and then the other, alternating back
and forth until the IC comes out of the socket.

5. Unpack the expansion RAM from the box and insert it into the IC socket
so that the mark on the RAM aligns with the mark on the IC socket.

CAUTION: Be careful not to bend the pins of the RAM.

6. Replace the compartment cover, ribbon cassette, and the printer cover.
