SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

    NOTE: You must have UNIX System V, release 3.2 or above to install and
    use the backup system software.

Backup system software installation for UNIX and XENIX differ slightly.  If
you are installing the backup system on a UNIX system, installation
instructions begin on this page.  If you are installing the software on a
XENIX system, turn to page 1-5 for installation instructions.

    NOTE: Run the INSTALLPKG utility to install the backup software.  Do not
    simply copy the files.

1)  At the log in prompt type ROOT and press ENTER.

2)  Insert the Tape Backup System master diskette into drive 0.  Type
    INSTALLPKG and press ENTER.  (See the following note if you are installing
    from a 3.5 inch diskette drive on a system using SCO UNIX. Other
    installations, proceed to step 3.)

    NOTE: SCO UNIX requires a different command for step 2 in this section.
    SCO UNIX USERS:  If drive 0 is a 3.5 inch, 1.44 Mbyte diskette, type
    /usr/lbin/Install.sh /dev/dsk/f0q18d0 and press ENTER.

3)  Answer all questions at the prompts concerning the drive that you are
    installing from.

4)  To install the backup system software, press F1.  Press F9 to access
    installation Help for backup system software installation instructions.

5)  Answer all questions at the prompts concerning your computer's hardware
    configuration.

6)  Installation of the backup system software then begins.  The file names
    are listed as they are copied.  The following message is displayed when
    installation is successful:

TAPE SYSTEM INSTALLATION SUCCESSFUL

7)  Press F10 from the Install Menu to begin kernel configuration.  Any
    errors encountered during the rebuilding of the UNIX kernel are recorded
    in the file /tmp/jtape.err.

8)  When the kernel has been successfully rebuilt, shutdown and reboot your
    computer to enable the jtape driver.

BACKUP SOFTWARE REMOVAL - UNIX

If you should ever need to remove the backup system software from your UNIX
operating system, follow these steps:

1)  At the log in prompt, type root and press ENTER.

2)  Type REMOVEPKG and press ENTER.

3)  A list of packages that are currently installed on your UNIX system will
    appear.  Type the number corresponding to Jtape Tape Backup Package and
    press ENTER.

4)  The Jtape Tape Driver is removed from the UNIX kernel and the UNIX kernel
    is re-linked.

5)  Shutdown the UNIX system to complete the removal of the Jtape driver.


XENIX INSTALLATION

    NOTE: You must have XENIX VERSION 2.3 or above to install and use the
    backup system software.

1)  Make sure that you are the super-user and that the current directory is
    the root directory.

2)  Insert the XENIX Tape Master Diskette into the diskette drive.

3)  Type custom and press ENTER.  You will then see a list of the available
    sets similar to the one below:

          1.Operating System
          2.Development System
          3.Text Processing System
          4.Add a Supported Product
          5.Jtape Tape Driver

    NOTE: Jtape Tape Driver will appear only if the backup system software
    has been previously installed.

4)  The next prompt instructs you to INSERT DISTRIBUTION VOLUME 1. Press
    ENTER.

   NOTE: If have already installed the Jtape driver, you will see it as an
   option on your available set list.  Enter the number corresponding to
   this option when upgrading the Jtape driver.  The rest of the installa-
   tion sequence is unchanged.

5)  A menu similar to the one shown below is then displayed:

          1.Install one or more packages
          2.Remove one of more packages
          3.List the available packages
          4.List the file in a package
          5.Install a single file
          6.Select a new set to customize
          7.Display current disk usage
          8.Help

Type 1 to select INSTALL ONE OR MORE PACKAGES and press ENTER.

6  The menu shown below is then displayed:

    Enter the package(s) to install

Type JTAPE and press ENTER.  At the prompt INSERT JTAPE TAPE DRIVER VOLUME 1
press ENTER again to load the tape driver files.

7)  The Jtape Tape Driver is added to the XENIX kernel and your XENIX system
    is re-linked.

    NOTE: Do not be alarmed if the Jtape drive is first removed from the
    XENIX kernel and then added to it.  This is part of the normal installa-
    tion sequence.

8)  If you do not have the XENIX link kit installed, you will be instructed
    to install it.  Refer to your XENIX reference manuals for link kit
    installation instructions.

9)  The old XENIX system software is placed in the root directory in the
    file XENIX.OLD.  The new XENIX system software, which includes the backup
    system software, is installed in the root directory in the file XENIX.

10) When the files have been loaded, type q and press ENTER to exit the
    CUSTOM UTILITY.

BACKUP SOFTWARE REMOVAL -- XENIX

If you should ever need to remove the backup system software from your XENIX
operating system, follow these steps:

1)  Make sure that you are the super-user and that the current directory is
    the root directory.

2)  Type CUSTOM and press ENTER.  A list of available sets appears, similar
    to the example below:

          1.Operating System
          2.Development System
          3.Text-Processing System
          4.Add a Supported Product
          5.Jtape Tape Driver

Enter the number on your list corresponding to JTAPE TAPE DRIVER.  (In the
above example, you would enter 5 and press ENTER.

3)  A menu similar to the example below then appears:

          1.Install one or more packages
          2.Remove one of more packages
          3.List the available packages
          4.List the file in a package
          5.Install a single file
          6.Select a new set to customize
          7.Display current disk usage
          8.Help

Type 2 to select "Remove one or more packages" and press ENTER.

4)  The menu shown below then appears.

    Enter the package(s) to install

Type JTAPE and press ENTER.

5)  The Jtape Tape Driver is removed from the XENIX kernel and the kernel
    is re-linked.

6)  If you do not have the XENIX link kit installed, you are instructed to
    install it.  Refer to your XENIX reference manuals for link kit
     installation instructions.

7)  The old XENIX system software is placed in the root directory in the
    file XENIX.OLD.  The new XENIX system software, which does not include
    the backup system software, is installed in the root directory in the
    file XENIX.

8)  Reboot your computer to complete the removal of the Jtape Tape Driver.
