CTR-66 (140-1151) Recording Faxback Doc. # 6964

Your recorder features a built-in automatic lever control (ALC) circuit
that automatically sets the proper recording level during recording. The
built-in condenser microphone is highly sensitive and picks up sound from
practically any distance in a normal size room. If you connect an
external microphone (not supplied), the built-in microphone automatically
disconnects.

For an external microphone, insert the microphone's 1/8-inch plug into
your recorder's MIC jack and follow steps 1-3 to record. If the external
microphone has a separate, smaller plug for remote operation, insert that
plug into the REM jack. Then, you can use the microphone's remote switch
to pause. To record using the built-in microphone, follow these steps.

1. Press RECORD. Recording starts.

2. To temporarily stop recording, press PAUSE.

3. At the completion of the recording, press STOP/EJECT. If the end of
the tape is reached while recording, the recorder will shut off
    automatically.

Note: If you are using a microphone with the remote jack, you must turn
on the microphone's remote switch for operation.

LINE-LEVEL RECORDING

For direct recording from a radio, tape-deck, or CD player, do the
following:

1. Disconnect any external microphone.

2. Connect the sound source to the AUX jack, using a suitable patch cord
(not supplied) with an 1/8-inch plug at one end and the appropriate
plug at the other end to match your sound source's output jack.

3. Set the sound source's volume to a normal listening level.

4. Press RECORD on your recorder. The recorder automatically sets its
recording level. The recorder's VOLUME control has no effect on the
    recorded sound.

5. To monitor the recording, connect the supplied earphone to the EAR
jack on the side of the recorder.

Note: When you connect both MIC and AUX, only MIC is functional.
