Car Radio Silencer (170-0801) Installation Faxback Doc. # 7154

This section shows you how to connect the phone/CB and radio to the
silencer. If you are unsure about any part of the installation process,
we recommend that you have your silencer professionally installed.

Note: Use a soldering iron or crimping tool for all connections.

Follow these steps to connect the phone/CB to the silencer.

1. The silencer's black wire is the ground wire. Directly connect it to
a clean, metal part of your vehicle's chassis.

2. Cut the phone/CB's battery lead (connected directly to the battery's
positive [+] terminal), leaving two open-ended wires.

3. Connect the silencer's yellow wire to the wire connected to the
    phone/CB.

4. Connect the silencer's red fused wire to the wire connected to the
    battery's positive (+) terminal.

Connecting the Radio

Follow these steps to connect the radio to the silencer.

1. Cut the radio's ignition lead, leaving two open-ended wires.

2. Connect the silencer's blue wire to the wire connected to the
    vehicle's fuse box.

3. Connect the silencer's remaining wire (red with white stripe) to the
    wire connected to the radio.

ADJUSTING THE SILENCER'S SENSITIVITY

It is necessary to adjust the silencer's sensitivity so that the radio
turns off at the proper times. The silencer detects the difference
between the phone/CB's standby and transmit current. Sometimes the
difference in current is very small (depending on the make and model of
the phone/CB) and only a slight turn of the silencer's sensitivity control
is required to adjust the sensitivity.

Carefully follow these steps to adjust the silencer's sensitivity.

1. With the vehicle's engine off and the ignition switch in the accessory
position, turn the silencer's sensitivity control fully counter-
    clockwise.

Caution: Do not overturn or force the silencer's sensitivity control.
Doing so might damage the silencer and void its warranty.

2. Turn on the vehicle's headlights and radio (set to a low volume
level), and put the phone/CB on standby. Then slowly turn the
sensitivity control clockwise until the red indicator lights. The
    radio turns off.

3. Slightly turn the sensitivity control counterclockwise and wait
3 seconds for the indicator to turn off.

If it remains on, continue turning the sensitivity control
counterclockwise in very small increments, waiting 3 seconds after
each turn, until the indicator turns off.

When the indicator turns off, the radio turns back on.

TESTING THE SILENCER

After you adjust the silencer's sensitivity, test the silencer. Test the
silencer with the engine off and the headlights on. Then test it with the
engine on at a fast idle and the headlights on.

To test the silencer with a cellular phone:

1. Turn on the headlights and place a call. When the phone's "in-use"
display turns on, the silencer automatically turns off the radio.

2. Terminate the phone call. After 3 seconds, the silencer turns on the
    radio.

Note: If the radio turns on during a phone call, readjust the silencer's
       sensitivity and retest the silencer.

To test the silencer with a CB radio:

1. Turn on the headlights. Then, press and hold the microphone's button.
The silencer automatically turns off the radio.

2. Release the button. After 3 seconds, the silencer turns on the radio.
