PROBLEM                                         CAUSE/REMEDY

No power to unit even with Power               Power plug not connected

Disc rotates but no sound is heard.            1.  The Volume control

Cassette does not sit properly in tape         Tape is inserted with

PLAY key does not lock                         Tape is at end of the side
in down position...............................and the Auto Stop function
                                               is activated.  Remove the
                                               cassette and reinsert
                                               it so the other side is
                                               facing down.

RECORD key does not lock down.                 Plastic tab(s) on the
                                               cassette have been
                                               broken off.  Cover the
                                               missing tab(s) with
                                               tape.  The hole for
                                               each side must be
                                               covered separately.

Will not record from TUNER or                  Hi-Speed Dubbing switch
PH/CD/AUX                                      is ON.  Set switch to
                                               OFF.

Tape does not run.                             The Pause key is
                                               pressed.  Release the
                                               Pause key.

Tape runs but no sound is heard.               1.  Volume control is at
                                                   minimum.  Adjust the
                                                   Volume control.

                                               2.  Function switch not set
                                                   to TAPE.  Select TAPE.

                                               3.  Headphones are
                                                   connected.  Disconnect.

Cassette sounds weak or distorted.             Dirty record/play head.
                                               Clean the record/play
                                               head.  (See "Cleaning
                                               the Tape Deck.")

Cassette recording is weak and distorted       Dirty record/play or
or a previous recording can not be erased.     erase heads.  Clean the
                                               record/play and erase
                                               heads.  (See "Cleaning
                                               the Tape Deck.")

Power is on but the Tuner does not play.       1.  The Volume control
                                                   is at minimum.  Adjust
                                                   the Volume control

                                               2.  The Function switch is
                                                   not set to TUNER.
                                                   Select TUNER.

                                               3.  Headphones are
                                                   connected.  Disconnect.
