Ascentia 910N Hangs After 1-2 Hours using PCMCIA Ethernet Cards in Windows 95

PROBLEM

The Ascentia 910N may hang after 1-2 hours when using a(ny) PCMCIA Ethernet
card in Windows 95. The system will connect properly to the network and work
normally for approximately 1-2 hours, then it may lock up and need to be
powered OFF and ON again.

CAUSE

Random data may be received when Windows 95 polls the VLSI controller for
power management status. This random data may lock up the system.

SOLUTION

To resolve this issue, disable power status polling. To do so, follow the
steps below:

1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon.
3. Click the Device Manager tab.
4. Double-click the Systems branch to open it.
5. Click Advanced Power Management, Properties, and Settings.
6. Click the Disable Power Status Polling box to check it.
7. Click OK until you return to the Control Panel.
8. Click Yes if prompted to restart your computer.
